It's slightly going off topic but while we're asking for recordings, may I please ask for a dvd release of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées new production this year of Pelléas et Mélisande with Patricia Petibon?

Can't find that one yet, but maybe these performances from Aix-en-Provence and Turin (the latter one a concert performance) would suffice for a moment...

Another rarity - and filmed by none less than Leni Riefenstahl

Eugen d'Albert produced several operas, but he is best known for "Tiefland" ("The Lowlands"). I will quote here the Wikipedia entry for that opera:

"The best-known film adaptation of the opera was by the German director Leni Riefenstahl, with Riefenstahl herself playing Marta. The film, begun in 1940, but not released until 1954, used Roma slave labor from a German transportation camp for some of the extras, many of whom were sent to Auschwitz before the end of the war."

The video of that filmed opera, by Hitler's infamous yet genial movie director (best known for her "Olympia" and "Triumph of the Will") can be seen here:

I think the only recording I own that - using Florestan's criterion of an Amazon price in the $200 range - is this recording of Rossini's La Donna del Lago with Frederica von Stade and Marilyn Horne - just looking at the cover of this CD and thinking of von Stade and Horne together at the peak of their careers in 1981 is enough to make me swoon:

What I don't know is whether this might be a pirate recording, which would explain why it's a rarity.
