Was that Jonas Kaufmann singing the UEFA anthem yesterday in Munich, for the football (soccer) final game of the European Champions League? (Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich; won by Chelsea)?

Of course, the American commentators had no clue about who that guy was, and the camera only stayed on him for a fleeting moment so I'm not sure, but it surely looked like him, to me.

If true, this would dispel rumors that he is seriously ill after a series of cancellations (caused by lingering doubts about what was that tumor that his doctors removed from his chest a while back) - he looked pretty healthy to me.

Have you Europeans watched the game with more informed commentary, and can you tell me if it was indeed Mr. Kaufmann?

Yes it was but he wasn't actually singing. It was lip-synched.

I watched it but I didn't HEAR him, because commentators and fans were too noisy.
    Here's excerpt:

    And Bayern lost

Uh-oh. So, there is this part: "Kaufmann will be lip-synching to a pre-recorded vocal performance because of a medical condition" - so he remains in trouble. It's a long time, this doesn't bode well for my ticket to see him live at Covent Garden on July 1st.

He'll be just fine. Being sensible & saving himself for Les Troyens.

Eh? Awful little ditty. Looking good, though, Mr. Kaufmann!
    Thanks, Elektra!

Yeah, but admit it, Aramis. If it were JDF who bought the new refrigerator, you'd be all aquiver to know what brand!

JDF, JDF... I don't know why you think I like him so much. We just happen to see each other often, he always comes when I open my window and don't turn off all lights... last night I met him sitting on the wall in kitchen, above the clock.
