    "MosŤ in Egitto" translation help

    Salve!

    A friend of mine is currently preparing English subtitles for the 2011 Pesaro production of "MosŤ in Egitto" by Rossini.

    We have an English translation of the libretto. Unfortunately, a brief section is missing. I would be very grateful if an Italian-speaker could please translate the following passage into English. With permission from the original uploader, the video will be posted to YouTube with added subtitles.

    Grazie!

    218
    00:42:31,222 --> 00:42:36,647
    Ah! Tal saria se partisser gli Ebrei...

    219
    00:42:36,923 --> 00:42:42,426
    Tu vedi notte ove non e che giorno.

    220
    00:42:42,461 --> 00:42:47,054
    E' chiaro giorno quel che vegg'io:

    221
    00:42:47,089 --> 00:42:51,125
    l'arte del Mago ebreo notte tel fa sembrar;

    222
    00:42:51,160 --> 00:42:56,795
    sotto il pretesto di offrir le ostie al suo Nume entro il deserto

    223
    00:42:57,709 --> 00:43:00,838
    chi non vede una trama?

    224
    00:43:02,126 --> 00:43:06,750
    Ognun sa pure, che quaranta e piu lustri or son compiuti

    225
    00:43:06,785 --> 00:43:09,906
    da che scese Giacobbe a questo regno,

    226
    00:43:10,324 --> 00:43:12,607
    e ognun pur sa,

    227
    00:43:12,883 --> 00:43:18,095
    che fin d'allor gli Ebrei adoraro il lor Nume entro l'Egitto;

    228
    00:43:18,736 --> 00:43:22,752
    come dunque si vuol, ch'ei l'ostie or chieda

    229
    00:43:22,787 --> 00:43:27,066
    sull'arse solitudini infeconde dell'Arabia Petrea?

    230
    00:43:27,376 --> 00:43:32,410
    Gia i Medianiti son sull'armi, e della tela ordita

    231
    00:43:33,299 --> 00:43:38,851
    chi sa che a ricompor le prime fila Mose fra lor non vada,

    232
    00:43:39,070 --> 00:43:44,522
    onde scagliarsi ad essi unito a devastarci il regno?

    234
    00:43:49,647 --> 00:43:52,699
    Ma il flagello divin?

    It's hard to translate a libretto with my poor english skills:

    OSIRIDE
    Ah! so that would be if jews left..

    AMALTEA
    You see the night where there is only the day.

    OSIRIDE
    It's clear day what I see:
    the art of the jew mage make you look like night;
    with the excuse to offer wafers(?) to his God in the desert
    who don't recognize a plot?
    Everyone knows that forty and more lustri (lustro/i=5 year period) are past
    since Giacobbe descent in this reign,
    and everyone knows,
    that since that moment the jews praised their God within Egypt;
    how do you pretend that he demands the wafers now
    on the burned and infertile lonely land of Arabia Petrea?
    The Medianti are already at war, and of the machination
    who knows if in the first row between them Mose will go,
    to, then, dash out with them to destroy our reign?
    Such stupidity bring me disdain.

    AMALTEA
    But the holy scourge?
