That's it. Need more.

Yes, I always wanted it, but it's expensive, I always had some other priority ahead of it. At some point I'll take the plunge.

A very good biography of the Italian soprano (of Jewish origin, born in Białystok), a great favourite of the Chicago Opera in the 1920s and 1930s.

This is a very useful tool, and a nice companion to explore Opera:

Schigolch, I know that this one has many more operas, like 1,800. The same publishers/authors have published an abridged edition with only 270 operas (which I own and like). But is each entry for each of those 270 operas more extensive in the complete book than the entries for the same operas that exist in the abridged editon, or are they exactly the same? Because if they are the same, it would be an obstacle for deciding to buy the complete edition in 4 volumes (which costs ten times more) since it is much more likely that I'll consult the entries about the 270 most important operas than the other 1,530.

I haven't read the abridged version, so I don't know. But in the standard edition there are many more things than only operas: singers, composers, conductors, cities, periods, styles,...

I found it deadly dull. Too much stuff about admin, not enough about productions.
