She's definitely still active -- the Opera Base site shows her singing Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus early next year at La Scala, and Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito in Valencia a few months later.

Well then she is on my list! So is Fleming, Kasarova, Didonato, Prina, among others.
Necessities of life: food, water, air, shelter, and opera.

I would add Jamie Barton and Catherine Foster to the ladies' list and Andreas Schager and Ain Anger to the gentlemens'.

I would now include Eric Owens among my favorites.

First of all this is an amazing thread!

I’m a new opera fan and right now I spend most of my time listening to voices of the past, like Pavarotti,Franco Corelli,Caruso and many more. But I love some of the new opera singers. I can’t put ten males and ten females of the new era.But I really want to express my preferences.

I love Juan Diego Florez. My favourite male singer of the new era. He is simply amazing! Placido Domingo is a stunning artist too! I love his voice and his musicianship! (He is not a modern one but he is still active)

From the females Elina Garanca is simply perfect! When I bought her CD “ELINA” the best of her carreer I just loved it from the beggining. It was one of my first opera CDs.

I really like Mirto Papathanasiou too. She is a Greek female soprano. She is really good!

Those are my favourite. Maybe later I will find ten of both males and females. But my favourite are them!

    Juan Diego Florez

    Elina Garanca
    Mirto Papathanasiou

Yep, the right adjective to refer to Elina is "simply perfect." And oh my, how intelligent... how beautiful... a complete goddess.

I hope you have noticed our interviews section. Jim and I interviewed Elina in person and we've been in love with her ever since, LOL.

Go to the Home page, see the widget on the top left corner, click on interviews, scroll down to Elina's name and you'll read it. Pretty interesting!

By the way, I interviewed Juan Diego too.

I didn't know Myrtò Papatanasiu. I'll look her up, thanks for the hint. We do have an interview with the principal conductor and artistic director of the Greek National Opera.

Yep, Myrtò is not bad at all, here as Rusalka:

He's not a singer, but I believe the very interesting (if also a bit controversial) conductor Teodor Currentzis also is Greek.

I will read all the interviews! Thank you a lot Mr Luiz!

Elina Garanca is an amazing artist! When I listen to her albums I can feel she is not just sing in them but she puts her soul! Her voice is powerful and the same time soft and beautiful. I can’t find words to describe how much I admire her as an artist! I feel the same about Juan Diego Florez!

A convenient way to read our interviews is to buy our interview books, on brochure or kindle. You can find them by simply searching by my name on Amazon.com
