A less famous Un Ballo I decided I must add to collection, 1970 recording with Tebaldi well past her prime but for the men we have a young Pavarotti and Milnes in studio stereo sound......that is enough reason!

    Regina Resnik is Ulrica
    Helen Donath is Oscar

I've not heard of Gueden before. Coupled with Di Stefano, was she a big star now forgotten?

I have only seen a handful of her 1950s recordings, mostly R Strauss and Mozart, also operetta........

    Austrian soprano Hilde Gueden (Rosenkavelier)

I think she was a major star in the German-speaking countries during the mid-20th century. She made a fair number of recordings, some of them with Fritz Wunderlich.

I only own this recording with Hilde Gueden, but haven't listened to it for awhile. Like other of Strauss' soprano roles, Daphne was not for the faint of heart:

As MAuer said, I also know Gueden's name as one of the great sopranos in the German repertory from the 1950s and 60s.

OK, it's official now. After so many years of going without, I've finally finished replacing my old vinyl Solti Ring cycle with CDs.

At last, I have rejoined the human race.

I did not buy this live MET Verdi boxset.......but I really want that 1960 Nabucco!

Excellent live sound, originally this was to be Callas performance at the MET but Rudolph Bing had a deep fallout with Maria. Cannot buy CD individually on Amazon but spotify premium has it, Rysanek sounds great as Abigaille
