Having received a nice little refund from our former utility company, I ordered (from the Tutto Verdi series) Blu ray copies of Forza and Traviata and Cenerentola from the Glyndeborne performance. Should be here next week.

This Anna/Erwin Don Giovanni doesn't seem to be in the American market yet. Does anybody know of a release date?

I believe that amazon uk has it for pre-release, but the US market seems glacial, as always.

In keeping with my current interest in classic Wagner recordings, two items on order from Amazon, both of them Metropolitan Opera broadcasts featuring Lauritz Melchior and Helen Traubel conducted by Erich Leinsdorf.

First, the historic December 6, 1941 Walküre, on the eve of Pearl Harbor, with Traubel's first opportunity as Brünnhilde (after Kirsten Flagstad returned to Norway because of the war and Marjorie Lawrence contracted polio), and the 23-year-old Astrid Varnay as Sieglinde in her first-ever stage appearance.

Then the February 1943 Tristan, not as marked historically (just another night at the Met in those days), but no less extraordinary a performance.

Both sets are marred by the traditional cuts and recording limitations of the era, but the singing is utterly glorious, while Leinsdorf's fevered direction whips the orchestra into an absolute frenzy. Testaments to a true golden age of Wagnerian opera.

Today, I received Adriana Lecouvreur with Gheorghiu and Kaufmann. I have never seen this opera, although a CD set is here somewhere. I have hopes, based on reviews.

A rare recent purchase of two new CD sets.......
I surely do not "need" anymore Messiahs, but E. Haim usually delivers the goods

For the Caldara release I love Delphine Galou and must have her work........

That looks like it should be good.

Pretty soon, you'll be needing another one of those big ol' bookcases!

This is a traditional production, and the role of Adriana really suits Gheorghiu. Kaufmann is great as the opportunistic Maurizio, but I think the best performance may come from Alessandro Corbelli as the devoted Michonnet.

I first overlooked the Caldara till I saw contralto Delphine Galou listed, another Naïve label baroque sensation!
First heard on the recent Naïve releases shown

I think L'incoronazione di Dario is my favourite Vivaldi...
