Yay, gift cards! Finally got me to pull the trigger on a couple of purchases I've been eyeing for a while.

First, the Kubelik Meistersinger, perhaps the best on CD.

Then the big box set of Angela Hewitt's complete Bach keyboard works.

    Happy listening to all!

There are so many references to Vivaldi's operas, I've finally given up. I decided to start with Ercole sul Termodonte since some of the criticism I've read says that it's a good one to start with - apparently because it was Vivaldi's first commission for Rome, and he worked hard to impress.

I have to say, it is pretty catchy..

This is a fairly new recording I read about in the "New York Times", that suggested that it is wonderful and unfairly overlooked (as is Franz Schreker himself) and ripe for a new Met production.

Sounded like a rave review to me, so I bit. I haven't listened to it yet (I downloaded it off iTunes - I wasn't sure about the recording technology being downloadable since it is being sold in SACD format).

Despite the Captain suggesting Hannigan, I went for Petibon

This one was included in the sale, the other wasn't. When the other is, I'll get the other. Until the other one is, I'll take this one. It was as simple as that.

I've spent way too much. So I have decided that's it.

I am not going to buy any more opera CD or DVDs this year.

I'll join you in that, Clayton! A belated New Year's resolution: no more opera purchases in 2014!

Oh oh . . . I'm slipping already. You may have to help me get through this!
