I lose the will to refrain from buying when I see the words Peter Mattei and René Pape. It's ridiculous because I don't even like Tannhäuser that much!

One the other hand a good straightforward Freischütz cannot be missed.

Please be sure to report back after you have watched the Tannhäuser - that looks like the production I saw at the Berliner Staatsoper last spring.

I know, it means no Unwatched Pile for Tannhäuser!

Coming to the realization that family giving me opera recordings for Christmas isn't going to happen, I came to the conclusion that I am going to have to continue to feed my own habit.

    So:

This arrived yesterday - it's used, off Amazon, and ridiculously expensive ($50 used!), but it is Frederica von Stade, so...

and, recalling someone else's purchase or comments a week or so ago, I decided that it is time to familiarize myself with Mariella Devia:

and, finally, because it was only $9.99 and Amazon Prime (so no shipping fees) - of course, there's probably a reason it's only $10, but:

Of course that way you have no risk of being given a CD that doesn't quite fit in to your interests...

Just as I am pulling the trigger on the one below you come up with Eva Mei on Tancredi. I have the Tancredi with Sumi Jo and Ewa Podles, but Eva Mei would possess me to buy another Tancredi. Am checking into it.

Well the above posts constitute my second CD set and my second DVD. I could not help myself on the DVD at the price. And I like McIntyre in the Dutchman DVD so thought he might be interesting in Meistersinger.
