I've been waiting for two years to find this at a reasonable price. Thanks Presto Classical!

To buy or not to buy? (From now on, this is the question to ask fellow members when one is undecided).

Not if that is your only Puritani, there is not a perfect video version without flaws out now that is clearly best, but for best Elvira performance the MET (younger) Netrebko blu ray and for best Arturo it is JDF.....these would be my two versions to buy first and then consider others to supplement

I think Netreko's mad scence is quite good....

    OCH REALLY

She looks wonderful on that one but it doesn't make her best Elvira, far from it. When you have DVD of I Puritani with singer like, for example, Gruberova, calling Netrebko the best one seems as joke.

Yes I really do mean buy Netrebko blu ray first....
Remember we are talking about visual media here, Anna is very good actress with great stage presence and dramatic visual impact, I love her warm amber toned voice also, very impressive in mad scence, which DVD are you saying is better overall?

If you are talking about vocal performance only as in CD version then a strong case can be made for Gruberova

I, though, agree with those who point deficiencies in Netrebko's skills. Elvira's part is virtuosic one and it's no secret that Netrebko is no virtuoso of bel canto. Her looks, lively acting and fine timbre are not enough to substitute her flaws, nothing can do that. I really wouldn't recommend this DVD to anyone who isn't die-hard fan of her, especially when beside her own considerable imperfections you get HIM... <nudge, nudge>. It's my least recommended I Puritani.

Regarding Gruberova, you can see the entire DVD-released production with her:

For me the first thing I need to know is who is singing Sir Giorgio Valton. John Relyea was OK but Ildebrando D'Arcengelo is superb on this one.

I've heard that Riccardo Zanellato is very good so I'm putting this DNO one on my wish list.

I agree. I do have the other two. This new one from Opus Arte is a vitamin supplement (if it is good enough) ...

I disagree. Anna is perfect. I refuse to consider any evidence to the contrary.
