    I like Opera Rara's description;

    ...straightforward, graceful melodies which express the characters’ often fiery emotions with minimal adornment or display; perfect for the beautifully constructed verses of Felice Romani, Bellini’s favourite librettist. The score points forward to Bellini’s greatest works and, on its own account, includes superb dramatic writing and those characteristic ‘long, long melodies...
    I know they're trying to sell the opera to me...

    Job done!

    What do you think about the quality of the recordings? Are these remasters?

    Also, since I already have (only have) the Solti Ring recordings, which would be your follow-up "go-to" Ring (quality of the recording is important to me, so if 1950s, would need to be excellent remasters)?

    P.S. Don't forget to vote in OL's 'List of Most Recommended Operas' !

    The Kempe 1960 Ring is an excellent recent find by Itullian (we salute him) with stellar cast, it is a live Bayreuth recording but sound is very good for live compared to other live Rings of that time.

    The best combo of sound/performance of live golden age Bayreuth has got to be the 1955 Keilberth with excellent stereo Decca recording (you will pay a high price for the priviledge of ownership) or the later 1966-67 live budget price Bohm Bayreuth, the 14 CD Bohm is about $40 at Amazon USA

    Thanks, DA. You have mentioned the Keilberth on a number of occasions, and I think that's going to go next on my list.

    Thanks for the mention DA.
    I agree. The Keilberth and Bohm for best performance/sound combo.

    Just arrived yesterday, a new addition to my Callas collection. However, since I was out of town until this evening, not yet listened to (a bit pricey, from Arkivmusic).

    Note to Clayton: Especially nice presentation (well, to my eye, anyway) in a small (7 5/8" x 5 5/8") book with the disks tucked in slot in the back. Lots of photos from the production with La Callas!

    Nice purchase! I'm jealous! And, speaking of opera AND ST-TNG, I trust you remember this episode...

    ...where Data is enjoying listening to four musical works at the same time (one opera)?
