I was wondering about that and that initially threw me off but again that face! (Well, okay the music too; La Traviata is important to me). I want that picture. I also want the picture on page 61 of the Memories La Vestale book.

Good Heavens, that poor woman! Without all that war paint on her face, I suspect she's probably quite attractive.

    I added La Favorita:

Don't like the recording, though - it's hard to tell whether the opera is even any good.

There is a Decca studio recording with nearly the same cast $13 at Amazon USA sellers, live opera d oro releases always must be sampled before purchase since sound quality varies widely from very poor to pretty good.....

Thanks - I ordered it, then realized that I should have waited until after Christmas, since I will be out of town for the week. I hope whoever robs my mailbox plays it on a good sound system!

This purchase inspired by Schigolch thread.

...Anita Cerquetti was not a beautiful woman. A "difficult" face, a big, rotund body...

This was not an obstacle in the 1950s, and she was able to get a good career...
In the operatic world of today, in spite of her truly magnificent voice, she will get some more trouble to get hired...

Cerquetti has a magnificent studio Gioconda that any opera owner must own, what a cast! One of her very few studio recordings......

Every Gioconda stands in the tall shadow left by Callas, listen to this great Suicido on youtube using vinyl source by turnipoverlord, I am speechless......floated notes are exceptional and the dark "tenebre" 2:24 cannot be matched by any soprano I have heard, we intimately feel her deep anguish
