Wunderlich and Sutherland at their best - with excellent sound for a 1959 recording!

It's a wonderful recording, but beware: according to the review in Fanfare magazine, the score here has been "fiecely cut" - e.g., the role of Oberto is completely eliminated, along with two other arias and the entire ballet at the end of Act II - along with some cuts in the da capo. I don't notice it because I didn't otherwise know the opera and, of course, because the singing is so good.

    P.S: It's available on iTunes for $14.99

I read somewhere that Leyla Gencer is amazing in this role (though her supporting singers, apparently, not so much), that the reviewer thought Sutherland is kind of apathetic. I decided I that I have to find out for myself, so have ordered this (used):

I keep telling myself that I will never be, nor want to be, a Handel completist. No, no, no. For that way madness and irrecuperable financial loss lie. Going oratorios now. These two on the way. (Again with the unintentionally oversized jpegs.)

Never try to teach a pig to sing. You will waste your time and you will annoy the pig.

This is the version of Alcina I have, and it's terrific. Really makes one wish that La Stupenda and Wunderlich had recorded more operas together.

Pre-ordered from Amazon today; should receive them in about another month. I'm still trying to track down the videos of the Salzburg Don Carlo and Ariadne auf Naxos, especially since the former also has Anja Harteros.

So, what do you think of the 3 (Ezio, Ercole and Wm Tell)?

That Parsifal is tempting enough to get me to try and get going with some kind DVD capacity...
