Lucky you! This just popped up on my Facebook feed and was something I found quite interesting. It explains the dire states of Italy's opera houses and the large amounts of new conducting talent from the country http://www.economist.com/blogs/prosp...toyourhometown

Kaufmann cancels again. He seems to be prone to infections.

Reading down thru the comments section of that post, if I'm reading it correctly, JK has not cancelled his upcoming Met appearance in Manon Lescaut - only his performances at the Teatro Real, Madrid.

I'm not a massive fan of Manon Lescaut (Definitely the weakest of Puccini's successful works) but the production at the Met looks like it could be an Interesting one.

I wonder what happened to Helga Schmidt, who was dismissed from her post as Intendantin at Valencia's Palau de les Arts a year ago after being arrested and then released on suspicion of embezzlement.

Can't imagine this is one of those cancellations with massive amounts of complaints...

Perhaps that's exactly why she doesn't cancel more often.

Apparently, this is the year for tenors’ illness-related cancelations. Johan Botha has withdrawn from the role of Siegmund in performances of Die Walküre this month in Dresden as well as the title role in the Salzburg Easter Festival’s production of Otello. Christopher Ventris is replacing him in Dresden, with José Cura filling in at Salzburg.

I'd rather see Christopher Ventris any time (although I am happy with Botha in audio recordings). Can't imagine Cura in Wagner though...
