I don't like Last Night of the Proms - hate all the flag waving and jingoism - but I enjoyed Juan Diego Flórez's singing.

This was wonderful. I loved the audience reaction as they caught sight of him and just adored the expression on his face. Brilliant acting and singing.

I like "Rule, Britannia" -- it's a good, stirring tune and lots of fun. (And you do realize that now I just HAVE to watch the YouTube clip with der Jonas from last year's Proms!)

though (confused about titles and positions I have been googling) looking at predecessors, the names Elaine Padmore and Nicholas Payne don't ring a bell with me. Though the one in between the two who was there for 2 years, "none", sounds familiar.

Here we go again: der Jonas has canceled his appearances in Berlin next week in The Dream of Gerontius due to illness. He’ll be replaced by Toby Spence. http://staatsoper-berlin.de/de_DE/staatsoper-aktuell-3
He was just in Naples conducting a master class and giving a (formal) concert of Italian folksongs at the Teatro San Carlo.

That may not sit well with those who purchased tickets to The Dream of Gerontius in the hope of hearing him – though I realize the man can’t live in a cocoon between performances. The good news is that he should be fully recovered by the time Hoffmann attends the Bayerische Staatsoper’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
