My perfect weekend: Danielle de Niese, lyric soprano - The lyric soprano Danielle de Niese, 34, is married to Glyndebourne's owner, Gus Christie. Her weekends are currently spent performing in Don Pasquale and playing host to thousands of opera goers.

What? No pic you say? OK, OK, twist my arm!

Not the most informed or fair assessment of Strauss's involvement with the Nazis.

For some, it is enough he accepted the presidency of the Reichsmusikkammer, irrespective of the reasons. I wonder if even he would have done it again in retrospect? But then again, hindsight is 20/20.

Not scary at all, I agree. And because it is on-topic since she is a coloratura soprano in contemporary operas (at least in her mind), a composer of contemporary operas (at least in her mind), and not scary at all, I'll post this informative link of her cultural pursuits.

He can certainly be held accountable for his compliance with the Nazis, but he acted in the hope of preserving some vestige of German culture, and of protecting his Jewish daughter-in-law and grandchildren. It's too much to call him a Nazi "sympathizer"; he knew all along he was dealing with barbarians.
