What has been your most terrible video direction experience?
For me, it's this one, with the camera constantly going from stage to pit and vice-versa every 3 to 10 seconds during the entire opera, to the point of causing nausea. Unbelievable!

I have three:
Too much backstage business destroying the magic and interrupting the flow. Infuriating
Never shows anyone but a heavily sweating Peter Seiffert, no matter who is singing.
Consistently cuts off the dancers' legs in this ballet-heavy opera.
I'd like to line them all up against a wall and and....![]()

Well...not really...But I bought the Ring by Mehta, not so far from Star wars...Furtheremore, Blu Ray, plenty of special effects and gadgets...This completes my Ring Collection: 4 conductors on CD (Solti, Krauss, Fürtwangler, Barenboim), and my 3 DVDs: James Levine, Barenboim, Mehta (Blu Ray). I am soooooooooooooo happy!
I love the Ring, I use it for my treadmill...I saw Barenboim complete (I finished two weeks ago), now James Levine (I started last week) still with the very first opera (the gold),
Sincerely,
Martin
Can there be a thread devoted towards "cineopera" ?
I think filmed operas are a very special thing, almost a sub-media unto itself. Sometimes I see in a plethora of taped stagings, a bonafide cineopera thrown in there and it can bug me that it's not seen as any different.
I'm having an especially tough time tracking down this guy
Let us praise some kind of sky fairy, because the Glyndebourne Theodora has been released on CD!
We can now enjoy the amazingness that is Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, Dawn Upshaw and David Daniels on the go!

Seattle Opera is doing Poulenc's "La Voix Humaine" paired with Puccini's "Suor Angelica" this season. I'm in the market for productions on DVD. I consulted Amazon.com. "La Voix" is often paired with Menotti's "The Telephone". Obviously "Suor Angelica" is part of "Il Trittico".
Does anyone have favorites of these two operas?
Thanks,
Scott
I know, huh? I don't know either opera, but it sounds like red wine with fish to me.![]()
Both are very dark and gloomy one-act operas, so it's reasonable to pair them.
I like La Voix Humaine. It's an interesting slice of life. I've never liked overdramatic and hyper-religious Suor Angélica. I much prefer the other two Trittico operas, the Verismo-like Il Tabarro with its cinematic score, and the very funny Gianni Schicchi.
