What have you been listening to, lately?

This is a classical thread in every musical Forum out there.

Right now I'n reviewing Il Trovatore recordings for the in-Depth thread. This is the one I'm listening to, at this precise moment:

    Probably my favorite Barbiere.

I love Ewa Podles in the role of Polinesso here.

Although I'm not entirely convinced by Anne-Sofie von Otter singing Handel, I very much enjoyed her rendition of Scherza Infida yesterday. I had reached a point on my walk where I was on a little bridge over a tidal estuary. I stopped walking and listened to this lovely aria, basking in the sun, gazing at the honeysuckle on a nearby bank trailing in the shimmering water and watching a cormorant catch its breakfast. A magic moment.

I'm digging this aria from time to time since yesterday:

I think I've became die-hard Florez fan recently because though I agree that other tenors made more accomplished, by some means, interpretations, I'm still listening to his.

JDF's biggest problem is that he's not photogenic at all.

This is lovely, I've never heard this aria before. I really like his voice and Lawrence Brownlees' but I can't really decide who I like more.
    Only the positive!

Among the operatic works I have been listening to lately, Gluck has been one of the most important. I have been absolutely enthralled with this recording:

I find myself wanting to explore more and more the history of opera from the time of Handel through the era of Mozart. There are so many almost forgotten voices.

As part of my homework for my Falstaff Experience next year (going to the dress rehearsal with my gorgeous gay boyfriend & three performances) I got this recently with the wonderful Sir Geraint Evans in the title role and it is absolutely fab-u-lous.

I just bought the Jacobs Marriage of Figaro and I'm working my way through it. So far I absolutely adore it. Next up is either Nielsen's Maskarade, the Falstaff with Geraint Evans, or some baroque stuff. I haven't really decided yet. Or possibly my new Macbeth with Warren, Rysanek and Leinsdorf.

Two days ago it was my newest Cav/Pag aquisition Corelli compared to Carreras/Muti double bill:

I have bought just about every Corelli studio opera now, consistently great performer.
The sound quality on the Muti is demonstration class, this is a great Cav/Pag

Yesterday and today two new Wagner acquisitions:

The Solti CSO Meister came in a luxury 50th golden jubilee package with massive booklet, the other forum Fav CD thread convinced I need this, performance/cast seems very good to me with great modern sound.

The DG Trio Tannhauser was a great budget price find........studio recording with Birgit Nilsson sounding fantastic as both Venus/Elisabeth, Windgassen as Tannhauser, highly recommended

Right now, I'm listening to all of my recordings of German Weihnachtslieder. But before that -- and as soon as January arrives -- it will be back to the new DVD of Anna Bolena:

Based on this performance, it's a shame Elina Garanca had to drop out of the Met production. I find her a far more convincing Jane Seymour than Ekaterina Gubanova, who sounded way too matronly to me.

As you can imagine, I look forward to this. I cancelled my order for the DVD because they announced the blu-ray version, but it's still pending; should be in before Christmas.

Hey, as you know, I did see her live at the Met in the same role, and got to kiss her on the cheek after the performance, so, don't be jealous.
