Got two Barbers with El Zanzarone and Mattei mixed today. First Benini's recording with Damrau as Rosina and last act from Met's 2007 production with diDonato instead of her. They both are great Rosinas but I liked Damrau better.

It's a cold morning so I'll need some good marching music to get the old red corpuscles moving so it's going to be this on the Walkman today

I can't stop listening to and watching Handel.

Kathleen Battle is perfect as the self obsessed Semele.

Have watched these again in quick succession:

Grit your teeth and suffer through the first act (Liliana Nikiteanu is frankly painful) and it gets pretty good.

My second favourite Handel DVD. Should be renamed "Dejanira".

Now in the middle of this. Still not sure about this silent movie era staging.

Antonacci's wardrobe in that Rodelinda is one of the greatest examples of bad taste in opera history.

She should sue them. This is just absurd.

PS: Not to mention halter dresses were only invented in the 70s.

He he I was too busy admiring her well-toned arms to take in the dress. But you are right, it is ugly. Not as ghastly as Eduige's which turned a fairly good-looking woman (Louise Winter) into the Queen Mother in her declining years.

To help feed the Handel hunger Presto UK has great price $44 on the Curtis Handel opera boxset from Virgin label during end of year sale, bought mine a couple years ago and would not be without it.......much cheaper than Amazon currently

No Presto Classical sale goes unexplored by me - that is just sitting twinkling at me from my desk now - going to break into it soon!

It's great and at the same time terrible because how can you listen to any complete recording of Tell when nothing comes close to this Corriam?
