This was the first recording with Jonas Kaufmann that I bought way back in 2002, when I'd just discovered him courtesy of a review in Opernwelt.

Yes! Wonderful indeed! I don't know why other people say that Sinopoli's conducting is "lazy", I don't think that at all. Most of the time I find myself tapping my foot and bobbing my head over his orchestration of Nabucco... I don't know if that's a good thing for opera... Dimitrova is a powerfully haughty Abigaille. The duets with Cappuccilli are awesome.

    Today is Ghena Dimitrova's birthday!
She would have been 71. As a tribute to my favorite soprano and interpreter of Verdi's powerful, wicked, and scheming women, I shall play all of these (and some of the Recordings of Indeterminate Origin) and put them on "Repeat All" until the day is through:

His voice is somewhat lighter in timbre than it is now, but it still has that "darkly glowing" quality mentioned by the reviewer that caught my interest.

Nice pieces. I loved Nucci singing Da Quel Di Che T'ho Veduta in act I, too bad Verdi didn't make it into longer aria, it's beautiful line.
