These early Verdi with Gardelli are great.

Verrett was a great Lady MacBeth, have you seen this video of live performance from same time as that recording also with Abbado conducting, such dramatic fire and swagger....I love it!

    Bravissima!

A rare and wonderful occasion my internet connection held stable.

    Absolutely a diamond performance!

    Fantastico!

I was actually just about to post a thread "I need to have some more Shirley Verrett"...

Which other roles did she blaze with such magnificence?

    Post Script
What a young and beautiful Abbado!

    Lovely packaging.

New to this sort of box (Don Giovanni) it took me a while to figure it out.

At first, when I could only find Disc 1, I thought I had bought faulty goods or that the shop had given me a purposely made display only copy.

I am now up to speed on all the new box designs.

However I am still surprised every time I see a disc with colour print and or a picture on it. It makes me smile just by opening the box.

I hesitate to recommend anything because I know I don't have a discerning ear & I like stuff for all sorts of reasons. But I like this very much. You should be able to get a 2nd hand copy quite cheaply.
