I like this recording very much too. (Can't stand Sutherland so the other recording you mention is out for me, however devoted I am to Horne).

I corrected my earlier statement to add an 'in my opinion' acronym, as I understand a lot of folks don't like Sutherland - I thought about editing out the 'of course', but couldn't bring myself to do it.

Very good recording. KFV is excellent - he handles the role without a hint of strain, although I can see where his voice might take some getting used to. His 'In fernem Land' sent chills down my spine.

I love this recording - a stunning group of arias beautifully performed.

Like all (I think) Naxos recordings, it's live - so the sound in this case is very good but not great. Performance is outstanding - very quick, accurate, but not eccentric, coloratura. All the singers are good - I didn't detect a dud in the bunch.

More early Verdi from Gardelli, bought during my Carreras completist phase. I stopped telling people I loved these early 'galley years' recordings because someone sneered at my enthusiasm once & I felt mortified. Now I realise it's their loss!

Yes, let's KEEP spreading the word! I bought I due Foscari, I Masnadieri, Il Corsaro, and Un giorno di Regno encouraged by your enthusiasm and I love them. Always looking to add to these as well (La battaglia di Legnano has proved difficult to find so far).

Just got around to start listening to this one. It was recorded late last year. Oh this is good. This is good. Christie and company at the top of their form.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. You will waste your time and you will annoy the pig.
