The ad is funny, in my opinion. A bit vulgar but not exactly offensive. And why would females be particularly offended, and not males? There is nothing sexist about the ad. People should relax a bit.

From Jonas Kaufmann's unofficial web site (www.jkaufmann.info), a charming photo of der Jonas and his wife, the mezzo Margarete Joswig, at the recent Oktoberfest.

Aaah so cute, don't they look relaxed and happy (no wonder with the size of those beer mugs)

Just in case there was any doubt about Kaufman's nationality.

Apologies if this has been posted already, but Placido is scheduled to be on the Jay Leno show tomorrow night.

Yes, he told one interviewer recently that, as a Bavarian, he doesn't consider beer to be alcohol. He was joking . . . I think.

Speaking of the Jonas (which I nearly always am!), he was recently awarded the Bavarian Europe Medal by the state's Minister for Europe, Emilia Müller, at Munich's Prince Carl Palace. The theater actress Juliane Köhler was the other recipient. They were honored for their contributions toward the integration of a united Europe. He's certainly one of the best unofficial ambassadors Germany has.

Those characters at Opera News have just released another Diva issue (November). I'd like to know when they're going to give the gentlemen equal time and create a Divo issue!

Anybody know anything about this rumour which I found on a Youtube comment, posted two weeks ago, about Roberto Alagna?

Translation: I've just found out that our tenor, Roberto, has bone marrow and blood cancer. It's impossible that such a beautiful voice should one day go silent. Let's hope that modern medicine can save him.

I find it hard to believe, particularly as he is so perky on his Facebook page. On the other hand singers tend to be pretty quiet about their illnesses until they are out of the woods (think Natalie Dessay, Toby Spence, Der Jonas etc)

The misspel on the name of the cancer doesn't bode well for the credibility of the YouTube commenter. I hope.

I've signed up to the ROH student list on Annie's recommendation, but I won't need to wait much longer. My dad will be coming over on business soon and we've got tickets to see the ENO's Julius Caesar.

Great! I'm sure you'll enjoy it, it's had some excellent reviews!
