Oh, my . . . Reminds me of a newspaper music critic back in the '80s who described Scarpia as a great Verdi baritone role.

People may respect Flórez for his job for Peruvian music developement, but they will never get a glimpse of what he's going through out there for this project's sake until they see this:

I feel all bitter now for not being from Peru. If they can play like this and still perform with him, he might as well take me as his accompaniament pianist, if I would.

I spotted the program for Jonas Kaufmann's concert today at the Royal Festival Hall, and I am so envious!! There are several Verdi arias here that he's never recorded or sung publicly before, and I'd love to hear them.

    Giuseppe Verdi: Overture, Luisa Miller
Giuseppe Verdi: Oh! fede negar potessi - Quando le sere al placido from Luisa Miller
    Giuseppe Verdi: Overture, Nabucco
Giuseppe Verdi: O inferno! Sento avvampar nell'anima - Cielo pietoso, rendila from Simon Boccanegra
Giuseppe Verdi: Prelude to Act 1 from La Traviata
Giuseppe Verdi: Io l'ho perduta! from Don Carlos
Giuseppe Verdi: Overture, La forza del destino
Giuseppe Verdi: La vita è inferno from La forza del destino
Giuseppe Verdi: Ah, la paterna mano (Macduff's aria) from Macbeth
    Interval
Richard Wagner: Ride of the Valkyries from Die Walküre
Richard Wagner: Ein Schwert verhiess mir der Vater from Die Walküre
Richard Wagner: Overture, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
Richard Wagner: Am stillen Herd from Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg
Richard Wagner: Prelude to Parsifal, Act 3
Richard Wagner: Amfortas! Die Wunde! from Parsifal

So he sings for the Aussies, and then he comes over here... and not a peep.

So Trebs just sang Vieni t'afretta at the Mariinsky gala today. It was kind of amazing.
