A newbie's first experience with opera.

I was terrified and felt intimidated the first time I went to ROH so I can understand how he felt!

Nightmare in Aix. Sarah Connolly recounts how Les intermittents sabotaged the first night of Ariodante.

I think I was very lucky in Lyon. A spokesperson was allowed to make a statement on stage before the opera began and that was it. There was some serious French chunterings and the occasional mon dieu but Simon Boccanegra went ahead without further interruption. I know a performance of Daphne in Toulouse was cancelled altogether due to protesters barricading the opera house.

That is so disappointing for the artists and the audience. And the only effect it will have is to make people stay away, which means even less money to go around. Idiots.

I'm glad your performance went ahead without problems, but what a shame. I shudder to think if I had traveled from abroad at great expense (for me), and ran into that nonsense.

Unions have enough trouble justifying their existence these days without offending the very people most likely to support them.

Moses und Aron produced by Welsh National Opera and being performed at Royal Opera House on 25th and 26th July. I'm not going but the cast looks interesting and I wonder how naked is naked.

    Oyez oyez.

Presto Classical are having a MASSIVE opera sale: clicky

    I'm only on page 24 of 266 and I've already "spent" $200.

I have already spent a day feeling guilty and will serve the entire month of August in penance.
