I'm sure the performances will be fabulous (especially the one on Sunday). You'll have to give us a full report.

Do you KNOW how much the Jonas ticket cost? And it'll do them good anyway to have a break from eating.

Could he look any more cool?!

By the way, why is he referred to as der Jonas?

That's just German usage to precede a person's name by the article. Since he's masculine, he's der Jonas. You would be die Annie, with the feminine article.

He has some very interesting things to say, particularly about Viennese operetta. Not everyone's cup of tea, but as he points out, what many people today associate with the genre was the syrupy version from the post-World War II period. The original performance style was evidently quite different.
What is evident by reading this interview is how cultured, intelligent, and knowledgeable Mr. Kaufmann is. His thoughts are a pleasure to read. So, he seems to be really the full package: great voice, good looks, good acting, and smarts. No wonder our female friends here go berserk about der Jonas.

I thought it would have been Herr Kaufmann as a mark of respect. I knew 'der' was 'the' but thought it was a shorthand way of saying 'the one and only'.

Thank goodness he occasionally drools when he is singing or he would just explode with perfection.

Apparently there are some fans who fight for the privilege of sitting within spitting distance.

I wonder why my own drooling has never met with that reaction.

    Really? Gross!
Although I might have some interest in Anna's drooling.

How to date an opera singer

I am reliably informed that there are always three in the relationship - you, the singer and The Voice. I think I'll stick with my preferred option and that's to live next door to one. Then I can stick the wine glass up against the wall whenever I feel like listening to warm-ups or rehearsals!
