I think I've seen someone talking about a video version in some other thread.
Philip Glass has an embargo on anyone filming Akhnaten, dammit.

I only have small insights and shallow ideas. :-(

But I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the sections not in ancient languages must always be performed in the language of the audience. Tim Mead recently did it in the Netherlands and he had to learn a Dutch version.

It's called music with repetitive structures for a reason.

Operatic celebrity sightings - yesterday, while sitting on a bench on pleasant Riverside Drive at W 86th, waiting for the appointment time with Stephen Costello in his apartment for his interview (I got there too early and didn't want to bother him before the scheduled time), I see a lady approaching, doing her walk, on sweatpants and all, au naturel. She gets closer, and she is... Renée Fleming! I thought of approaching her, but decided not to. I remembered what Elina Garanca told us in her interview, that when she is a private citizen and is shopping somewhere, she doesn't like it when someone approaches her to talk about opera. I thought Ms. Fleming might not want to be bothered either so I just sat there, seeing her walk by.

Yes, I was dumbfounded, regretting the lost opportunity to talk with the great artist. I don't have a lot of hope of interviewing her since veteran artists like her are the least likely ones to accept an interview (been there, done that, is what they probably think) so it's unlikely that I'll have another chance...

You did the right thing though
