    What *CURRENT* directors are truly international operatic assets?

    As we come up with our lists of today's significant singers and conductors, we should also do the same for opera directors. Once again, we are looking for current figures of undeniable importance on the international opera scene.

    Here's a first draft. Please suggest additions or deletions.

    David Pountney and Jonathan Miller? I don't feel warm about their work, but they have been working a lot....

    I love Marthe Keller's productions, but she don't work a lot...

    OK, I've added those above. But like I said, it's best to copy and paste the list with additions so that we're sure we keep it current. Or in your case since you have editing powers you can just edit the message.

    I must say I am not familiar with Kaspar Holten's stage work, but the clips of "Juan" I've seen are spectacular.

    Amfortas, where's that thread you had about listing directors by available dvds? I tried searching for it, couldn't find it.

    Also: Werner Herzog seems like a light opera resume from the dvd world, but I've read things about an Asian company who hired him for an opera on the 47 Ronin, and other premieres that sound more noteworthy that what we have available. (but I do love his Lohengrin)

    Franco Zeffirelli is still alive but no idea the last time he created a production. I think he still has one production the Met still uses?
