The one I just showed with Joyce unfortunately is not on DVD, such a shame, because by far it is the best staging, in my opinion. I saw it live with her and Juan Diego Flórez and Peter Mattei and it was just phenomenal, great cast, also with John Relyea and John Del Carlo. It is on the Met On Demand online streaming service.

I think the met on demand while by no means a cheap investment is worth at least a weeks free trial due to the extensive back catalog of performances is certainly has some great performances such as the Barber of Seville mentioned above the most recent Il Trovatore (in my opinion one of the best performance of the opera available to watch) the Pavarotti Pagliacci and many others worth a look in that are available on DVD but which can be viewed if you have the time to binge 2 or 3 a day during the week.

Excellent! Two newer productions of one of my favorite operas. Before this I only had the Theodossiou one with Bros on DVD. Is the La Fenice one going to be up at that site for a while?

This may be the best L'amico Fritz I have come across. (Somehow it looks familiar as if someone posted it here before.)

Thanks. I know what happened. I initially ignored it because it does not have English subtitles, but this is too wonderful to pass up so I am glad I stumbled across it today. There aren't a lot of choices for commercial DVD recordings of L'amico Fritz--maybe only one in fact.

I just went to the end credits and see that Carmela Remigio plays Suzel. I like Remigio a lot in here Maria Stuarda.

I am listening to it in the background and really love the gypsy's voice. I do plan to watch it sometime, but am about 1/4 way into Meistersinger and so hate to skip around.
