This has a few things going for it, mainly great singing. But also I found it interesting to have both Fidelio and Leonore in the dungeon at the same time showing here real self vs being in disguise and the differing emotions expressed. But there was a lot of weird stuff too. Still, I like it better than the (corny in my opinion) Levine Fidelio DVD, which I watched once and dumped for whatever Dearborn Music would give me for it. So I watched bits an pieces from this You Tube video but it was the ending when Florestan fell down dead that I realized, no way am I buying this.

Madama Butterfly from ROH. Both critics and ordinary punters have praised this.

Ludovic Tézier sings Werther. As Werther.

    Wait, what????

Edit: Apparently Massenet re-wrote it as a baritone role for Mattia Battistini for a production in St Petersburg in 1902.

Today is the birthday of the king of Sweden so here is a video of Un ballo in maschera with Saekyung Rim as Amelia:

In fact I did not like Un ballo in maschera until I saw this video.
