I think we all have our "favorite" covers. Those that are look like they are designed by the singer, conductor, composer,... worst enemy.

We can share some of those here, in this thread. Just to start with:

This cover is outrage. I mean, who's the star of the recording?

I could post the famous Salome cover with crawling Nilsson but I'm not that mean. I'll leave that one to Couchie.

What's so bad about Di Stefano two, I'd rather have more of these than another photoshoped picture of singer trying to look SOOOOOO HOT like CD cover would be "I'm looking for groupies" announcement.

Yes, I also like the Di Stefano covers; both, really. They are cute and unassuming, sort of not taking himself too seriously, I think, and match well his supposed real-life personality.

When TDK first released the DVD of the 2004 Zrich Opera Fidelio with Camilla Nylund and Jonas Kaufmann, I took one look at the cover design and wondered what on earth those people were thinking. They seemed to have searched for the most unflattering image they could find -- and this with two of the world's most photogenic singers in the leading roles. There were plenty of other images from that production with the two of them together that would have been much more appealing, and more appropriate to the opera's story. (Since then, there has been a new cover design created with Kaufmann prominently displayed.)

I quite like the EMI Classics art work!

I don't think that's a flag - I think it's a pennant which jousting knights had.

The conflict between Manrico and di Luna is double as they are members of opposite armies of some Spanish geezers, that may be the reason for flag on the cover.

Yeah, you're right. These covers could have been improved by removing some stuff that is getting in the way. In this sense, yeah, not-so-good.

If you want that, you need to look up the cover for their release of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. I was trying to keep this to PG-13, at most. Incidentally, you might also like their covers for the other Wagner Ring operas - similar theme to Walkuere.

Which record label is that from? It looks like a Nave cover as part of their Vivaldi opera series, but they already have Il Teuzzone under Jordi Savall. The artists listed above are actually from a previous recording of Teuzzone which has been re-released by label Brilliant Classics (see the second picture below showing oriental landscape) under Sandra Volta, as per the one pictured in Schigolch's post above. So, did Nave purchase the release rights or some other label has re-released this other recording by Sandra Volta? Interesting.

Naive released Savall's Farnace performance even though it was also previously released under another label
In that case however there was not a previous excellent version already in Naive catalog like Teuzzone

CD covers using a photograph of the featured composer's statue are usually very dull looking, mouldy, corroded and with bird droppings.

This one would have been a perfectly fine cover had it not be those white spots/whatever those are. Mould or fungus growing on the cover?

Wait . . . Rossini wrote Carmen???

Luiz Gazzola (Almaviva)

Great. Now we know what Carmen is all about: advertising silver BMWs through showing scantly clad hot girls. I don't get the masks, though. Was that something Bizet insisted upon, or his librettists?

Aramis

I don't get the masks, though.

I know your kind. The mask is disturbing and thought-provoking but you only want the pleasant and easy stuff that doesn't challenge you in any way. Go listen your unmasked Rossini guy, leave Carmen and it's ambiguous gulfs of meaning.

^ Well I never have heard of her until now, so your case is a good one for this should have been released in 1992. But what really catches my eye, and normally I couldn't give a hoot about style, but that is a beautiful dress she's wearing! And I say that in all seriousness in spite of it being in a not-so-good-covers thread.
