Our partners the Department of Music of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill present another very interesting 2-day symposium on African-American classical music, in collaboration with the North Carolina Central University in Durham.
Unfortunately Opera Lively will not be able to cover this event, since it coincides with Asheville Lyric Opera's event with tenor Lawrence Brownlee (lecture, masterclass, and recital) which we had already planned to attend.
Those who are at driving distance from Chapel Hill should consider this symposium, which will contain several concerts including vocal music, and various lectures and discussions. It is scheduled for Saturday March 2 from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM at Person Recital Hall, and then there will be a concert at 8 PM at Hill Hall Auditorium, both in the UNC campus in Chapel Hill; and on Sunday March 3, from 12 Noon to 6 PM at B.N. Duke Biddle Hall in the NCCU campus in Durham.
