• Press Release for Opera Carolina's Rigoletto in February 2018

North Carolina Cast & Crew Bring This Timeless Story Of Revenge To The Modern Day Stage
Charlotte, N.C., (Jan. 12, 2018) - Opera Carolina is pleased to announce its latest iteration of epic classics retold for today’s audiences with Rigoletto by Guiseppi Verdi. Opera Carolina’s production of Rigoletto promises to deliver stunning performances by local and international actors, artists and crew as it depicts this infamous story of revenge and love.

Opera Carolina invites the community to experience the opera in a new way. Opera lovers, families and curious art patrons alike will relate to Rigoletto and undoubtedly learn a cautionary lesson in payback. This compelling tale of love and vengeance serves as a reminder – the best revenge may be none at all!

As the plot unfolds, operagoers will find out that some sins can’t be swept away and the main character Rigoletto realizes this—only too late. This is a must-see production. There's deceit, lust and a curse that comes to fruition. Rigoletto, an ugly, hunch-backed court jester, tries to act out revenge. Unfortunately, there is another piece to the puzzle. Rigoletto’s daughter Gilda is madly in love with the cursed Duke of Mantua and is the victim in a deadly case of mistaken identity. Tragedy befalls Rigoletto when he takes matters into his own hands and Verdi's dramatic saga reveals the dangerous truth that can happen when love leads to murder.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Rigoletto to the stage and we hope that this production will introduce a new generation to the arts while reintroducing loyal opera lovers to this touching and epic story”, said Magali Simard-Galdes who plays Gilda, Rigoletto's daughter. “We are even more proud to showcase Opera Carolina’s smart cast of local artists and crew who will surely impress the Charlotte community. We invite any and every one to attend our three shows this February.”

The cast includes Anooshah Golesorkhi as Rigoletto; Raffaele Abete as the Duke of Mantua; Magali Simard-Galdes as Gilda; Matthew Curran as Sparafucile, the assassin; Leyla Martinucci as Maddalena; Megan Miller as Giovanna; Ashraf Sewailam as Count Monterone; Jonathan White as Borsa; Eric Loftin as Ceprano; Carl Dupont as Marullo; Xela Pinkerton as Countess Ceprano.

Opera Carolina’s Rigoletto debuts February 11, 2018 with additional shows on February 15th and 17th. Tickets are on sale now at www.operacarolina.org.
