Robert Ward, opera composer

Opera Lively had the honor and privilege of talking face-to-face for almost two hours with great American composer Robert Ward, author of numerous symphonies, chamber works, ballets, and eight operas, among them the highly regarded The Crucible, a Pulitzer Prize winner. Mr. Ward at age 94 is a charming and sweet gentleman, always with a smile on his face, and still very much witty and sharp at this advanced age. Almaviva met him at his home in Durham, as part of Opera Lively's effort to support regional opera companies, in anticipation of Piedmont's Opera upcoming performance of The Crucible in Winston-Salem, NC.
