Dear readers, some of you may not have heard this name yet (especially if you are American - the reason being, she hasn't had her American debut), but trust me, you will! She is a hit in Europe, is coming to Santa Fe for the first time on June 29, and will be at the Met and Chicago Lyric in upcoming seasons: outstanding South African soprano Amanda Echalaz. Luiz Gazzola will see her live in Santa Fe on July 13 (review to follow), and in anticipation of her Tosca, has interviewed the singer exclusively for Opera Lively. [Opera Lively interview # 36]

Here is what
The Independent said about her:
“…the young lady everyone is talking about – Amanda Echalaz. Her Tosca at Holland Park wowed even my most hardened colleagues but this Tosca (Royal Opera House) on the very stage Callas once trod was blessed with a temperament and a completeness that was world class. It’s rare to find a voice of such true spinto colour, dark and plangent with a stonking top…exceptional talent." Edward Seckerson.
