In anticipation of North Carolina Opera's upcoming Wagner concert on January 27 at 3 PM in Raleigh (Meymandi Concert Hall - tickets [here]), Opera Lively has interviewed bass Peter Volpe [Opera Lively interview # 75], a noted American singer with an illustrious career at the Metropolitan Opera and other prestigious venues, who will be singing Hunding alongside famed Met tenor Jay Hunter Morris' Siegmund (read his interview with us [here]) and Met/Washington National Opera regular, soprano Elizabeth Bishop as Sieglinde (read her interview with use [here]) in this concert performance of the first act Die Walküre, supplemented with excerpts from other Wagner operas such as Tristan und Isolde, The Flying Dutchman, and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. This is a great occasion for the Triangle public, since it is Wagner's bicentennial, and the first time his music is feature live in our region.
Opera Lively journalist Luiz Gazzola had the pleasure of meeting the convivial singer in person at the Raleigh Times Bar and Grill, a traditional downtown venue, over some good food and drinks, all sponsored by NC Opera. Mr. Volpe is very friendly and sports a contagious good mood with some hearty laughter, and seems to wildly enjoy both life, and his profession. Talking to him was a treat, and we look forward to hearing him on stage.
