I think you meant to name Jonas Kaufmann, but we all knew who you meant!

They're also streaming a really unique and fun version of Bluebeard's Castle right now. It has a silent film prologue set to Bartoks Concerto for Orchestra and it casts the opera as a modern crime thriller. Might not be everyone's thing, but I liked it a lot and musically it was outstanding.

Bother! Not at home (with friends) so can't watch. Hopefully it will be on again later.

Yeah, they're starting to stream more of their productions for 30 days, and this is one of them!

When all the opera houses shut down, many started offering free streaming of previous performances. At first I thought it was fantastic but now I'm having second thoughts and I don't watch any.

Most houses haven't honoured singers contracts so they're facing a very difficult and worrying time. They don't get a penny in royalties from all the streaming and I think it's wrong. The Big Names will be fine, but the young jobbing singers will struggle financially.

    Thoughts?

Many, many opera companies are creating online content, or streaming past operas. It's both a treasure trove to those of us who love opera, but also a troubling sign that they are struggling to compete to keep every donation dollar they have.

I'm sure you all know about the rotating options from the major companies, but I wanted to share one that you might not be aware of. The American Symphony Orchestra is streaming some of their Bard Summerscape productions. These are operas that usually don't have video recordings elsewhere, and amazingly: English subtitles!

So far, Korngold's Das Wunder der Heliane, and Rubinstein's Demon
