Just picked up this one last Sunday (Teresa Berganza: Recital Scheveningen)

which got me to listening to the rest of my Berganza disks (less the full operas--Barber of Seville and Cenerentola) which includes this 4 disk set:

    and these two:

"Ah,non credea mirarti si presto estinto, o fiore." --Bellini, La Sonnambula (also written on his tomb).

There is an aria in this where Fagioli goes seamlessly from a low baritone to a high soprano. . He really is an amazing singer.

Charming pastoral music with a French twist (sample: It's just as pleasant to make love by the fire as on a bed of bracken, so, shepherdesses, don't waste time, choose yourselves a likely shepherd today)

I enjoyed the orchestral parts more than the rather effortful singing, which reminded me why I don't like sopranos much.

When I was a little girl at school in France, we had to learn (carefully selected) Verlaine poems by heart. They sound better sung (especially by Jaroussky), and I am old enough to appreciate them now.
