The Gardiner Passions are probably my favourite because they're not only grave monuments of devotion (like Richter) but also super thrilling drama. Being raised in a very catholic country, in a reasonably catholic family I've seen the passion enacted and narrated many times since I was little, but it wasn't until a few years ago when I came across Bach's Passions (John was my first, and probably remains the one I like best) that I began to truly appreciated it as a story.

I'm seeing The Messiah in December for the first time ever and I'm listening to as many versions as I can find. Listening to this at the moment.
