During the housekeeping I realised I hadn't posted any photos to this thread, so here are a few.

These were taken very near my home and are on my route to/from town.

I love that you can walk to town along the canal and through the woods. I do miss that lovely fresh English green of the countryside

I love being near the canal.

I've forgotten - isn't it the same green in NZ?

No, it's got a lot more yellow/brown in it. I think it's partly due to the difference in ratios between evergreen and deciduous trees (you'll remember we have a lot of the former in NZ) and partly the fact the the grass species are different.

This is more the colour palette:

Hmmmm. Do I sense a double meaning here?

Last week I went to our local picture house, The Rex Cinema Berkhamsted which opened in 1938. It was closed when we first moved to the town but reopened 14 years ago.

Its a fabulous cinema, with nice comfortable swivel armchairs, tables and a bar. It was the first time I had been to the cinema in twenty-odd years but I shall revisit sometime soon.

    ^^

What a beautiful Art Deco building and great that it re-opened. Love the inside too.

In the local paper this week:

Hertfordshire Chicken Save holds peaceful vigils on a monthly basis outside Bell Farm slaughterhouse... On June 1 a peaceful negotiation was made with Bell Farm which resulted in the release of four broiler chickens... These four now have a happy home for the rest of their lives and their individual personalities are already shining through...

At this point the music of Acis and Galatea started in my head with Happy we! What joys I feel
