This has been on my must-watch list since the beginnings of my opera obsession, and I finally bought this and watched it. It sure did not disappoint. The ending wrecked me.

I actually started the evening with Hindemith's Sancta Susanna on Opera Platform. I was just being privately cheeky about pairing two operas about nuns, but they complemented each other better than you would think. It added extra context to when the nuns express concerns about Blanche's overactive imagination.

Seriously, though, Dialogues des camélites has me crying snotty tears. Every time.

I simply can't understand why a bunch of Swiss villagers are all dressed as though they are going to an evening party at Flora's, and Elvino really is a ^&%$, but this Sonnambula is well sung.

I might put this on for myself and my four year old daughter while the guys are at a Cub Scout meeting. Haven't really done much opera on video with the kids yet, though they've heard opera music since birth.

The flying Dutchman from Finnish National Opera on Opera Platform, in an intelligent Regie production by Kasper Holten. Singing also excellent. Worth a watch if you feel adventurous.

Yes, it's set in the art world, with the Dutchman as a panic-stricken, world-weary but successful artist, and Elsa an aspiring artist whose bold experiements set her aside from the safe domestic pottery of the other women.

Starting this one tonight. So far I love the Levine Rheingold, Walkure, and Siegfried. I understand that Gotterdammerung is where things really start to get crazy.
