What opera have you been watching lately?

I usually refer to that DVD as "the abomination."

I dumped my copy, as well. But as far as Trovatore on DVD, the Met version is my current favorite. Radvanovsky isn't quite as good as Netrebko's later Met performance (which is a master class in Verdi singing, IMHO, and is almost complete with opened repeats) but Sondra does an excellent job, and does Dima (RIP).

I'm watching a recent Salzburg Figaro broadcast by Sky Arts, Multi level, multi room setting, 1940ish. Apart from Luca Pisaroni, I don't recognise the singers. Not sure if the elaborate setting works and the ladies seem rather shrill. As I write this, there is action in about 4 different 'rooms'!! Waiting for Porgi Amor in the hope of better singing!!
Does anyone know this version?

Reading this review, it seems like it was a good production/performance but with some downsides. Well, that's not unheard of.

You're grossly over estimating my intelligence but I like it. I was referring to Harry Kupfer's stage direction which I assume worked better in the theatre than on camera. There are some parts that are almost irritating to the point of distraction.

Meanwhile I've been lost in Barrie Kosky world....A riot of ideas which I didn't really follow, but there's always KFV to fall back on. I did get rather bored - I think because the characters were more stereotypes than humans in this rendition, and the whole point of Meistersinger should be that these are real people.
