I am almost ashamed to note that last night we watched the absolutely delicious Seefestspiele Morbisch production od Der Graf Von Luxemburg. Talk about a musical sachertorte!
"Music is enought for a whole lifetime--but a lifetime is not enough for music." --Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff
Tristan und Isolde, from Bayreuth, with Stephen Gould, Evelyn Herlitzius, Georg Zeppenfeld, Christa Mayer and Iain Paterson, conducted by
Christian Thielemann and directed by Katharina Wagner. Interesting production (I like the idea that they are in love from the beginning). Gould was good although his German is not that hot, Herlizius was suitably intense but she really has a voice better suited to the Elektras and Ortruds of this world.

Another Ring session with my 14-year-old buddy.
Siegfried aka The Biggest of Jerks.

Stop making excuses for Siegfried. Mime may not be parent of the year but he was good enough. Siegfried survived alright. All Mime wanted was a little love. Wouldn't you be willing to kill someone as ungrateful as that little brat constantly telling you how horrible you look and how much he hates you? I certainly would. #TeamMimeToTheEnd
Siegfried is an insufferable brat, all right, but Mime didn't raise the kid out of the kindness of his heart -- he wanted someone who could slay Fafner and enable him to get his hands on the ring. Wotan, of course, is trying to find his independent hero who can clean up the mess he (Wotan) made, so he's also trying to make use of Siegfried. Brünnhilde may be the only one in that entire cycle who isn't using Siegfried as a means to an end (and she does need him to wade through all that fire and wake her up).
Had Siegfried shown at least a little affection for Mime, though, and maybe there wouldn't be a Götterdämmerung.
Gilda is a victim of her father, Siegfried is just really annoying.
Opera fans and economists,
they can all be looking at the same material and would always give different interpretations...
