You could get me going on another opera buying run. Gotta restrain myself. Already have more music than I can listen to. But part of the fun is the search and buy routine.
In fact, let's get the ball rolling. Just purchased:
This is my 4th Regiment recording. The others being Sutherland, Sills, and Moffo in Italian.
"Ah,non credea mirarti si presto estinto, o fiore." --Bellini, La Sonnambula (also written on his tomb).
This is a truly outstanding production and performance. This DVD is perfect. I've seen this opera a couple of times live in the opera house in other productions, and this one on DVD made it more real to me than the ones I saw live which I consider to be impressive, because Dialogue is a very visceral opera where the direct connection of the public to the performers on stage seems even more important than in other operas. Because the characters are so strong and their lines are so compelling, being there up close and personal is bone-chilling, so that a recorded performance on video can touch me even more than the live show is something to behold.
"J'ai dit qu'il ne suffisait pas d'entendre la musique, mais qu'il fallait encore la voir" (Stravinsky)
Given the label, I know I’m taking a certain risk where the quality of the recording is concerned (and forget about any libretto). However, with Katia Ricciarelli and Renato Bruson among the leads, I feel it’s worth the gamble.
