I think you have it as bad as I (and many of us) do. But this is a case of having it bad is good!

I am liking my Chandos sung-in-English Rheingold so much that I went ahead and ordered the next one. The slow tempos do seem to make it easier to follow the English so that I can understand quite a bit of it--when I am paying attention.

The recording dates from the 1950s and was still in the old monaural format, but I really like the looks of the cast – especially Simoneau and Alarie in the leads. And it's already been shipped!

Never heard of this one (or the others) but this cover reminded me of The Thing from the Addams Family:

    Grabbed this used on eBay:

I'd picked up the other three piecemeal over the years; finally completing the set.

All because a tip from Florestan got me poking around eBay. Thanks!

I think you should investigate Boito's Mefistofele.

When you have finished with the Ring obsession (so, say, in about 2020)

Haven't bought any CDs since Jan 22. So I went surfing
Rings and came up with this little-known gem.

Unknown singers, but great voices. High vocal clarity.
Good sound quality. Remarkable performance (studio, 1968).
    Listen to sound clips here.

I have that opera - a recording from 1959 that was in that box of operas I bought a year or so ago, and haven't been brave enough to listen to. Let me know if you like it, and I'll pull it out from the bottom of the ULP.
