    Just ordered through Dearborn Music:

I almost went for the one with Kassarova, but it has a lot of stage noise and the one above is equally excellent IMO.

I know this one is not rated that well, but for $4.49 shipped in VG condition, jewel case and booklet (with Libretto as I understand) in clamshell box, I could not resist.

Somehow, given that I have two DVDs and a CD set in the mail and have never listened to this opera yet, I have a feeling this one could become one of my bigger collections. There are quite a few DVDs out there and several other CD sets. The story really grabbed me.

Zampieri is better seen than heard.

So I need to get the DVD. I'll keep it in mind. Somehow I see myself with a fist full of Fanciulla DVDs.

Guess I should just go hunting for low prices and start picking them off.

Edit: I figured to get the DVD of CD set too. So now for $24 including all shipping, I have 3 DVDs and one CD set of this opera coming my way. Here is the third DVD just purchased.

Plácido Domingo (Dick Johnson), Mara Zampieri (Minnie), Juan Pons (Jack Rance)
Orchestra & Chorus of La Scala, Lorin Maazel

The best Fanciulla DVD for you, Florestan, IMO is the old Met one with Domingo and Daniels.

Depending on your liking or otherwise for the silent movie era, you might also like the Swedish opera one with Nina Stemme

I have the Met version, and it's still my favorite -- Milnes, at least for my tastes, is a better Rance than Tomasz Konieczny in the Vienna State Opera production. Vocally, Kaufmann and Stemme are wonderful, but I wish the director had spared the soprano -- and viewers -- that horrid red wig.
