Conductor/orchestra: Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Berlin Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Choir
Cast: Luba Orgonasova, Endrik Wottrich, Matti Salminen, Christine Schäfer, Wolfgang Holzmair, Gilles Cachemaille, Kurt Moll, Ekkehard Schall

I already have the Carlos Kleiber recording of this opera, and while most of the cast is wonderful, I've never quite warmed to Peter Schreier's Max. I'm hoping Endrik Wottrich will be a better fit, and the other soloists here look appealing. Of course, Harnoncourt is on the podium, and he was an idiosyncratic conductor, to put it mildly. In a few weeks, I'll find out how he approaches Der Freischütz.

Just ran down to Dearborn music. They had four used Il Trovatore sets:
Gui, Humburg (NAXOS), Karajan (Callas) and this one that I purchased for $7.99 plus tax.

    For Hvorostovsky:

Because I am a sucker for these sung-in-English sets:

On the wake of falling in love with Akhnaten, I got this DVD of the first installment of the trilogy. Excellent documentation. I haven't watched it yet. Running time 4 hours 24 minutes, so I don't know when I'll have the time.

Oh dear I got 42 minutes in and never resumed. And I love Akhnaten.

The first 42 minutes last 4 hours and 24 minutes. So *no one* has the time.

I've been documenting my huge bargain secondhand CD haul in the "What Vocal Music Have You Purchased Recently?" and "Latest Classical CD Purchases" threads. Here are the only three operas in the bunch.
