    Whelp. Ebay bucks spent. All $1.09 of them. Shaved a little off the price of this gem, my 4th Callas Sonnambula and Sonnambula #25 for me. (I had posted Sonnambula #25 a week or two ago but it turned out to be the wrong set which I am trying to return now.) And I did go a WHOLE DAY without making a purchase too, though I did place an offer on the item on the 2nd, but didn't actually have the offer accepted until the 4th.

    Well, I guess I found another opera to love. According to an Amazon reviewer,
    This is the most recent CD version of this operetta and the only complete one. It is also so far the only recording in modern digital sound. We do hear Lehar’s masterpiece for the first time in its full, uncut glory. All of the numbers listed in the score are included. The difficulty is that for the second act Lehar gives several versions for theatres of different sizes and varying capabilities. Schirmer opts for the fullest possible version of the grandiose Bestowing of the Yellow Jacket, which begins Act II. This includes the whole Chinese Ballet Suite with its four dance numbers and the exciting Wedding Procession with its exotic percussion and a large off stage band with four Aida trumpets, tam-tams, gongs and three kinds of military drums. The noise is gorgeous.

    After watching most of the DVD of the wonderful performance, I could not help getting a copy on CD and found the same performance, although somewhat cut, though none of the performances of this on CD were truely 2 CD (one was but would have fit a single CD).

    I just watched the extra video that came with it where they explain the piece and it was very inspiring to hear all the background information and that Placido is really into this sort of music.

    I have the Abbado Don Pasquale with Eva Mei, but I had this other one on Video and so could not pass up this deal for for it on CD for $3.48 with free shipping!

    Purchase inspired by MAuer, but I went for the low priced offering. IIRC Nicholaus Hillebrand is in the Martha Video from German Television and I like him a lot in that. So there are some good names here and it seems a fine performance.

    I like the pacaging, singing is good too, but they could have chosen better duets. But I guess with soo many "puccini cd's" they tried to do it other way
    I got a buch of Jonas kaufmann cd's, there is always some JK cd on sale here in Germany, love iT!
