Boss' boss gave each of us a $10 Amazon gift card. Got this with $1.83 to spare:

"Ah,non credea mirarti si presto estinto, o fiore." --Bellini, La Sonnambula (also written on his tomb).

He is new to the position about 2 months ago and is doing a super job, really working hard to make it easier for us to do our jobs. He is going to bat for us against another department that demands all kinds of work from us and is grossly underfunding us. So it looks like it will be a great new year (other than tax time is rolling around, ugh!).

    Conductor/orchestra: Ryan Brown, Opera Lafayette
    Director: Oriol Tomas
Cast: Kimy McLaren (Léonore), Jean-Michel Richer (Florestan), Tomislav Lavoie (Roc), Dominique Côté (Pizare), Pascale Beaudin (Marceline), Keven Geddes (Jacquino), Alexandre Sylvestre (Don Fernand)

Ordered from Presto yesterday and it's supposed to ship on Monday, so I should receive it around the 21st. I'm curious to see/hear this first operatic adaptation of Bouilly's drama.

NOTICE: Extreme bargain alert! Wagner 36 CD opera set for only $25 shipped (in USA at least, other countries may vary in shipping cost).

Here is the sale listing at ArkivMusic.. Look at the great singer's names on these sets! Now I know that one can NEVER have too many Wagner opera sets. I ordered mine this morning.

Great purchase, great bargain. If I didn't already have the Rienzi, the Lohengrin, and the Tristan, I might be tempted myself.

I just purchased this...great deal! I've only seen Wagner's Flying Dutchman so this will be great for me.

I got this for $2 this morning at the library sale. It is an ex-library copy with some stickers, but in very good shape, and the disks are pristine.

Sorry, this post was meant to be in the vocal music so I moved it. Here is the post FYI.

Wow, this price is just incredible! 36 CDs with the 10 Wagner mature operas plus Rienzi, all with good orchestras, conductors, and cast, for $21!!! I've never seen anything like this. It comes up to 58 cents per disc!!! Jesus!

Still, I won't buy it, because these days I very rarely listen to opera CDs. As I've said many times, I have a very strong preference for opera on video, given that I've always believed that for the complete art form, the sets, costumes, acting, etc., are essential (see my signature), and I have several video versions of all these operas, of course (some still part of my unwatched pile).

I used to listen more when my commute to work was 35 minutes each way. But recently I moved to a house very close to the hospital where I work, actually walking distance or a 3-minute drive, so my CD listening dropped even more.

That's nice; an extension to your day of sixty-four minutes!

That is great. So maybe a mile. Perfect to stay fit. I get two half-mile walks a day to and from the parking structure. I also walk with my wife after work in the summer and always on weekends.
