Good to know. I am really fixed on the Abbado set with Mei. I have Kertez and the other set with Mei (live) but they don't hold a candle to the Abbado set where all the voices are wonderful--especially Mei. My hope is that the Wallberg set will give me a second one to love. Popp is wonderful (FIdelio DVD), so is Araiza (Cenerentola DVD and CD). Other than that I occasionally like to listen to the sung-in-English Chandos set, which I like better than the other Italian sets I mentioned. I guess Donizetti is my favorite Italian opera composer though a couple of my most loved Italian operas are by Bellini and Mascagni.

One of these days I really need to begin adding to my opera recordings again, and Donizetti may be a good place to start. Verdi and the bel canto composers are probably my favorites in the Italian repertoire.

It just arrived today and I am in my second listen. Excellent opera. I highly recommend it. If only there was a DVD, but not that I am aware of. The soprano sometimes reminds me of Beverly Sills, Listen to her here.

The tenor hits a pretty high C the likes of which reminds me of those in La fille du Regiment. Listen here. I am a musical dunce but I have to guess that is a high C.

There is about 17 minutes of ballet at the beginning of Disk 2:
